THE FESTIVAL

It's Dragon Boat Racing Time - on Saturday, July 19th, 2008 at Laurel Creek, Waterloo, Ont.

We had a great turn-out supporting our Charity event.

And we raised over $20,000 to support the Grand River Hospital Child Services Programs and a number of other worthwhile projects in the Waterloo Region.

Forty-eight teams registered in 2007. We expect up to 70 teams in 2008. Come and enjoy the day and feel that Team Spirit again in 2008.
It is a great tune-up race for other events in the following week(s) and we usually get some great competition from the Golden Horseshoe area. Get your team together and book Saturday, July 19th, 2008 for this FUN 1 Day Event -

Call Bill LaRose at 519-897-4487,or e-mail bill.larose@sympatico.ca

If you are new to Dragon Boating or you are just out to have some FUN then get your team together to see what it is all about. We will train your team at the first practice to be competitive! We divide all the teams into divisions of 10-12 teams that raced about the same time you did in your first heat. It is always very close in the semi's and finals.

What's Dragon Boating all About?

Crews of 20 paddlers paced by a drummer(required for every race) and guided by a steersperson, combine power, rhythm and synchronization in competition with other crews to race a 40' canoe over a 500-m. watercourse. Dragon boat racing, the ultimate team sport, rates high on the fun, fitness and friendship scales. It's visually spectacular and it also just plain "feels good" when you do it!

The Event

The Waterloo Dragon Boat Festival will celebrate its eleventh year of operation in summer 2008. Last year, competitors spectators and volunteers brought total attendance to more than 4,000 people. In 2008 the Festival expects attendance to be more than 5,000.

In addition to the dragon boat races, the Festival features a major Arts & Crafts Fair, all kinds of entertainment, fun for the kids, food and drink services, souvenirs, public beach and park access, overnight camping, and a whole lot more to add to your summer fun in the sun.

Come join us!      Be there!
