THE FESTIVAL

Dragon Boat Racing

Crews of 20 paddlers paced by a drummer (required for every race) and guided by a steersperson, combine power, rhythm and synchronization to race a 40' canoe over a 500-m. watercourse. Dragon Boat racing - the ultimate team sport - rates high on the fun, fitness and friendship scales. It's visually spectacular and it also just plain "feels good" when you do it!

The Event

The Kiwanis Dragon Boat Festival will celebrate its eleventh year of operation this 2008 summer. In 2008 it will hosted the eighth Ontario College & University (Club Division) Provincial Dragon Boat Championships. The Championships have been integrated into the main festival schedule and are being staged as a featured event of the Festival.

Five college/university teams from 4 different universities participated  and 44 corporate/community teams competed in 2007 year's open event. Competitors, spectators and volunteers brought total attendance to more than 4000 people. This year the Festival expects to attract 70 teams to the event; 20 teams are expected in the College and University Championships.

In addition to the dragon boat races, the Festival features an interesting arts and crafts fair, clowns, buskers, a children's play area, an entertainment stage, a superb sound system, food and drink services, souvenirs, public beach and park access, overnight camping, and a whole lot more to add to your summer week-end.

Come join us! Be there!
