Again this year we are offering a Pledging Program for those Teams that wish to Participate in an effort to raise even more dollars for the Grand River Hospital Child Services Projects - or a new project primarily for Elmira and district teams - the new Elmira Recreational Centre.
In 2003 The Kiwanis Dragon Boat Festival produced enough income to purchase a couple of high-tech Incubators for the Hospital.
In 2007 we donated $15,000 alone from this pledge program towards special items.
As an incentive to participate in our Charity Pledging Program, we are offering prizes for:
1)The most dollars collected by pledges by a team.
2)The most dollars collected by pledges by an individual.
Now you'll have a chance to compete, have fun, and contribute to our community. This is the third year
of the Charity Pledge program (similar to a walk-athon or bowl-athon) where you can
collect pledges from co-workers and friends and raise money for the Grand River Hospital’s
Childbirth Programs.
Or you can raise funds for the new Elmira Recreational Centre to be built
on the old Race Track grounds in Elmira if that is your focus for your team. You'll
have a chance to have your entry fee reduced or waived. And there will be
great prizes - team and individual - for the top earners. (We're talking some major
prizes here!)
Many festivals raise over $160,000 this way. We'll keep it simple - your Team Captain or your Pledge Captain will get
and distribute pledge forms (you will also be able to download extras from the web site). You simply pick
the Charity you want to support, collect the money, fill out the pledge forms and hand
the money and paper back to your captain. Your captain will pass everything on to us,
on or before race date. We'll look after the rest.
Teams – raise $500 (less than $25 per team member!) and do your part to give back to the community!
Best wishes for a prosperous 2008. Paddles up!
Get ready to have a whole lot of FUN!
Teams – raise $1,000 (less than $50 per team member!) and we’ll give back $250 of your registration fee;
raise $2,500 and we'd refund ALL of your registration fee!
Individuals – raise just $100 and you’ll get a top-quality Dragon Boat Festival T-shirt.
And we'll be committing some serious money to really good prizes – team and individual – including game tickets, trips (to someplace even cooler than Laurel Creek!) and other cool merchandise. This is all on top of our usual great competition prizes!
Best wishes for a prosperous 2008. Paddles up!
Get ready to have a whole lot of FUN!

We suggest that a Pledge Captain be
in charge of the Pledges for your team. Have Fun with this program!
(A local team is defined as a team based in Waterloo Region)
There is no minimum age limit for your Pledge earners and anyone who produces
at least $100 in pledges will receive an official Waterloo Dragon Boat T-Shirt. A good
way to get the rest of the family involved in this well worthwhile fund raiser.
